Ulster County Names McGregor New Insurance Officer – Hudson Valley One

The Ulster County Authority announced last week that it has appointed Brian McGregor as the county’s new insurance officer. MacGregor is a longtime Ulster County resident with 26 years of experience in the insurance industry.

“The insurance officer’s role is to secure property/casualty insurance for the many exposures the county has,” said MacGregor. “The insurance office will also review and confirm appropriate insurance limits and coverage in all contracts the County has with vendors.”

The Insurance Officer is also the administrator of the county’s self-insurance plan, providing workers’ and disability coverage for all Ulster County employees, many city employees, volunteer fire departments and Ulster County Community College.

“This is a self-funded plan in that each member contributes a premium in proportion to the number of employees, salary size, and other factors,” said MacGregor. “Medical and wage compensation claims for work-related injuries are paid through premiums collected and accumulated reserves. Injuries resulting from medical expenses outside the workplace are covered under the disability portion of the plan. Ulster County’s self-insured plans comply with the rules of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Commission.”

MacGregor’s previous experience in the insurance industry aligns with his duties as county insurance officer.

“I have been employed by independent agencies over the course of my career specializing in commercial risk, including many municipal and social service entities,” he said. I would like to use my experience and relationships to contribute to the county.”

He has also adapted to changes in the industry and brought that experience to county positions. He has lived in Ulster County for over 40 years and locally he has 26 years of professional experience.

“In my 16 years as a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), I have continued my education on all aspects of insurance in this ever-changing risk market. We are familiar with the insurance companies we serve and have built long-term relationships.”

In announcing MacGregor’s appointment, Ulster County Acting Administrator Johanna Contreras described him as versatile and experienced.

“Brian McGregor is a seasoned insurance industry professional who has been a licensed insurance counselor for the past 16 years,” Contreras said in an October 24 press release. increase. “He will be an asset to the county government and we are thrilled to have him on our team.”

MacGregor grew up in Port Chester, New York, where he graduated from high school and then went on to study social sciences at Ohio State University.

“I moved to Ulster County in 1980 and made it my home,” said MacGregor, who enjoys the great outdoors. “Outside of work, I enjoy playing golf, fishing in beautiful lakes and streams, and hiking and biking trails.”
