Nevada County awarded funds to provide rent, mortgage and utility assistance to eligible residents

Nevada City, California – Nevada County Housing and Community Services has funds available to help with rent, mortgages, and utilities for households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications are now open and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Financial assistance for housing is an important preventative strategy to keep people from becoming homeless,” said Health and Human Services Commissioner Ryan Gruver. “This fund can directly help households on the brink of eviction or need additional support to stay home.”

Priority will be given to those at risk of homelessness who are behind on their rent or mortgage payments or who are receiving eviction notices for nonpayment. Eligible households can qualify for $2,000 per month for up to three months to pay current or overdue rent, mortgage, or utility bills.

“This funding will help people and families who are still struggling financially because of the pandemic,” said Mike Dent, Director of Housing and Community Services for Nevada County. “Our goal is to help people stay home during stressful economic times.”
