Insurance dispute at Upstate University Hospital could disrupt care for 20,000 patients

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Health insurer UnitedHealthcare says a contract dispute with SUNY Upstate University Hospital could disrupt care for about 20,000 Upstate patients in the Syracuse area.

Upstate’s contract with UnitedHealthcare expires on December 31st. His Upstate patients enrolled in some of UnitedHealthcare’s plans will be “out of network” starting January 1 if the insurers and hospitals do not reach an agreement by then.
