Former California insurance agent convicted of stealing from elderly consumer

66-year-old Vincent Allen Lagrange, a former licensed insurance agent in Seal Beach, was found guilty today in San Bernardino County Superior Court of one Grand Theft count of misdemeanor counts. He collects premiums from consumers, but pocket the premiums, leaving consumers uninsured.

LaGrange was sentenced to a year of probation and paid the victim in full.

In May 2016, the Department of Insurance revoked the license of Lagrange and the entity operating as Lagrange and Associates, Inc. and Empire Valley Insurance Services. LaGrange unknowingly funded his premiums from another financial company and six months later tried to reapply for a new license, but was denied.

In 2019, following consumer complaints, Department investigators learned that LaGrange was selling commercial liability insurance under someone else’s insurance license number and collecting premiums from consumers. LaGrange collected insurance premiums from her two consumers in Lake Arrowhead. One of them, an elderly consumer, was unable to apply for insurance and instead kept the money for herself. To cover up the theft, LaGrange issued an insurance policy to the consumer. This exposed consumers to losses and great financial risks.

If a consumer does business with LaGrange or his business and has concerns about its insurance coverage, please contact the department at 714-712-7600. All consumers can check the agency’s license status or contact the Department of Insurance at 800-927-4357 if they suspect they are victims of insurance fraud.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has prosecuted the case.
